Accessibility
This site is built to be easy to use for as many people as possible.
The short version
- Standard: Built to meet WCAG 2.2 Level AA. Colors meet the stricter AAA level.
- Easy to think through: Built with W3C advice for people with cognitive and learning disabilities.
- Make it yours: Change text size, spacing, font, colors, and how much shows. Look for "Display settings" at the top.
- Tested so far: Automated checks only. Testing with people who use assistive technology has not happened yet.
What we did
- One main idea per page. The page's purpose is in the first lines.
- Short sentences and plain words. We aim for a 6th grade reading level and check it with a tool.
- The same layout on every page. Nothing moves, blinks, or plays on its own.
- No time limits. The check lets you go back and change answers.
- Big buttons and links that are easy to tap.
- A thick yellow and black outline shows where you are when you use a keyboard.
- Works at 400% zoom and on small phones.
- "Just the key points" mode hides extra details.
- Colors come from the Oregon Department of Human Services' published palette. Every text color pair is checked for contrast.
- Pages print cleanly, with web addresses shown.
What we cannot control
- State forms and PDFs we link to are made by the state. Some may be hard to use with a screen reader. You can ask OHP for another format for free at 800-699-9075.
- We have not translated this site. We link to the state's own translated forms and language lines instead.
